Spin In–Life Lessons and Attaining Personal Goals

Alex Brooks, How Spin In provides personal insight and valuable work skills
This article is a part of the series “Where are they now?” After a Spin In experience, what lessons carry over? 
This article shows how Spin In can contribute to meeting educational goals and future career opportunities.

Somewhere between just finishing his MS in entrepreneurship and design in 2016 and about to start his MBA in healthcare administration, data analytics, and strategic leadership, Alex Brooks found himself in the right place at the right time. He was among classmates and friends at the Horn Entrepreneurship Venture Development Center. “I bluntly just jumped into the middle of a conversation and asked, ‘What is this all about? I want in!’” That is how he became a part of the Spin In Program. Brooks's classmate was graduating and was happy to introduce Brooks to the opportunity. For the next two years, Brooks worked with five Spin In teams and then took that experience to Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, as the Senior Administrative Director for OB/GYN.

Creating a company started with an innovative idea and an interdisciplinary Spin In® student product development team.

When asked about his entrepreneurial mindset, Michael Loveless reflected on his college graduation. “I was eager to get working when I graduated from Cornell University in ‘92, but the recession was in full swing. I was under-employed and not in a good-fit position.”  Loveless filled his thoughts with self-employment by thinking of software ideas relating to banks and fairness in lending laws.

A JOURNEY OF TWISTS AND TURNS

RAIStogether was a conceptional idea that University of Delaware alumni and RAIStogether Founder, Don Ainsworth introduced as a potential 2022 student senior project for the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College. Ainsworth served as an adjunct instructor at there at the time. So, it all started with four Dartmouth College students who created an application prototype based on Ainsworth’s idea.

Ryan Rodalunas will be the first to share that he never expected to retrace his steps through Alfred Lerner College Business and Economics. Returning after receiving a bachelor's degree in management information systems (MIS) and a master's degree in information systems and technology management, both from the University of Delaware, and completing a doctorate in business administration in information systems from Creighton University. Rodalunas now serves as the Faculty Director of Technology Projects at Lerner College
